The 2016 Mazda Cx-9 breaks into the segment that is more practical than stylistic. With the market leaning more towards functionality, with third row seating in a crossover rather than a minivan, it is difficult for carmakers to make the vehicle have the sweeping curves and stylistic choices that people look for. However, the Cx-9 sets itself apart. It has been redone for the 2016 model year from bumper to bumper, borrowing some cues from the good looking Mazda Cx-5.
There are four trim levels of the Cx-9, displaying that excellent material quality that Mazda strives for. The base level is the Sport, which comes with LED headlights and taillights, cloth seats, back-up camera, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a knob controller. Moving up is the Touring, which brings leather seats, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, power liftgate, auto-dimming mirror, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen. You can also add a Premium package that includes Bose stereo, rain-sensing wipers, sunroof, and satellite radio.
The next step up is the Grand Touring, which gives you a head-up display, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, automatic high-beams, and lane-keeping assist. The top of the line Signature trim level adds on a stylish interior with rosewood accents and brick-colored nappa-leather seats. Even completely loaded, the Cx-9 is priced below its competition.

Under the hood, the 2016 Mazda Cx-9 comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. There is a nice push in low revs, which gives the bigger Cx-9 enough push to pop into holes in traffic. It uses something called the Dynamic Pressure Turbo System that combines the advantages of two types of valves into one, so the vehicle has more get-up-and-go to drive in both city and country driving.
While driving, the Cx-9 is smooth and charismatic. It handles admirably with light but accurate steering. Mazda employs a safety system called i-ACTIVSENSE®. Active cruise controls comes on the top two trim levels and adds a sensitive collision-warning system that will apply the brakes if imminent collision is approaching.
Overall, the Mazda Cx-9 is more stylish, more efficient, and more entertaining to drive. The rewarding experience of driving the Cx-9 is a step above in the three-row herd. Check out our inventory here. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
