2023 Mazda CX-50 / 2022 Toyota RAV4 Comparison at Thelen Mazda in Bay City, MI

2023 Mazda CX-50 vs. 2022 Toyota RAV4

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 introduces a departure from the purely refined designs of the Mazda lineage. While the crossover SUV still gives passengers a superb ride filled with modern conveniences, the CX-50 is designed to appeal more to the adventurous mid-Michigan consumer. Trusted Mazda performance and reliability remain trademarks of the newest member of the lineup, while also adding the flexibility of AWD handling on every trim level. Competition such as the 2022 Toyota RAV4 are established members of the more rugged adventurous crossover SUV field that the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is taking on with confidence.

Performance

A mainstay of modern Mazda vehicles, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 comes equipped with a SKYACTIV® 2.5L engine that offers 187 horsepower for a thrilling ride around mid-Michigan. Drivers of the CX-50 will find that their acceleration is remarkably smooth as well thanks to the accompanying SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission. Comparatively, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 has its own 2.5L four-cylinder engine as the standard power base. The RAV4 offers 203 horsepower, and the engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The biggest difference between the two vehicles is that the 2023 CX-50 comes with the flexibility of AWD in every trim level of the crossover SUV. Meanwhile, the 2022 RAV4 comes with FWD handling as the standard and has AWD available on select trims.

Interior Features

Despite its focus on being a more rugged member of the lineup, Mazda has not forgotten to give the 2023 CX-50 the upscale interior that mid-Michigan families will adore. Areas such as the infotainment package for the 2023 CX-50 are much easier to access with the standard 8.8-inch touchscreen display compared to either the seven-inch or the eight-inch versions in the 2022 Toyota RAV4. While both vehicles come equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration for compatible devices, the Mazda CX-50 offers wireless connectivity to the Apple application. The Mazda also comes with a standard eight-speaker setup which is more dynamic than the six-speaker configuration that comes standard on the Toyota RAV4. Drivers can also use voice commands to operate the infotainment system in the Mazda for a safe way to keep the ride entertaining for everyone in the vehicle.

Safety Features

With its standard AWD handling, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 makes driving in mid-Michigan a more confident experience all year long when compared to the standard FWD on the 2022 RAV4. Supplementary driver-assistive technology such as Lane Departure Warning comes standard on both vehicles. The Mazda CX-50 comes with standard Blind Spot Monitoring technology which is available as an option on the 2022 Toyota RAV4 baseline trim level. With respective versions of Adaptive Cruise Control standard on both vehicles, long trips on the highway are made much less tiring on the driver.
